  • Divorce was rare between 1700-1857, as had to be by Act of Parliament.
  • After 1858, records kept at: Principal Registry of the Family Division, Decree Absolute Search Section, First Avenue House, 42-49 High Holborn, London, WC1V 6NP. Tel. 0207 947 6000.
  • If divorce was within the last 5 years, local county courts should also hold the records & may be a cheaper alternative.
